Cadillac Innovation and Leadership: Yesterday and Today
The 1957 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham - designed in 1954 as Cadillac’s dream car for the General Motors Motorama of 1955 – was brought into reality through the teamwork of engineers, designers, research experts and other car craftsmen. It was introduced in 1957 among much fan fair. The Brougham was the 3rd generation Eldorado to be produced by Cadillac. This hand-made car was the result of the vision and daring that came to signify Cadillac’s approach to the automobile. “Inquiring minds” at Cadillac had set out in search of a better way to develop an all-new automobile. With a long list of innovative features, it was called the most luxurious car of its day.
"Our goal was to build the finest car possible, and the experiment has been a success," said James M. Roche, Cadillac's General Manager, upon the car's introduction. Cadillac pioneered several new and innovative features in this car that paved the way to becoming industry standards. An early Cadillac press release framed it as follows: “While the features on this automobile will be available only on the Brougham, the pace will have been set and it seems inevitable that they will become Cadillac “firsts” and to be adopted on an industry-wide basis, as has happened so often in the past.”
The car generated significant publicity for the division and boosted its reputation as the most innovative car maker on the American landscape. Cadillac’s general manager described the Brougham as being “a symbol of Cadillac’s leadership in the fine car field.”
Today, Cadillac is growing globally, driven by an expanding product portfolio featuring dramatic design and technology. The 2016 CT6 is an outstanding example of this.
The 2016 CT6, elevates Cadillac to the top of its range and creates a new formula for the prestige sedan through the integration of new technologies developed to achieve dynamic performance, efficiency and agility previously unseen in large luxury cars.
CT6 marks Cadillac’s long-awaited return to the global prestige luxury segment, and is one of eight all-new vehicles the brand will launch by the end of the decade as part of its $12-billion product investment to expand and elevate.
